The numbers for this past month's weather are in:
This was the seventh warmest August on record in Kelowna, with a 20.9 degree average, which is just about two degrees warmer than normal.
It was also the eleventh driest August in Kelowna – we only received 10 millimeters of rain throughout the month, which is less than a third of the average amount of 32 millimeters for August.
Looking ahead, the cooler weather looks to continue, with showers expected throughout the Labour Day long weekend, and a slight risk of thunderstorms on Sunday.
Later on, Environment Canada meteorologist Armel Castellan says we’ll be getting a mixed bag of weather throughout next week.
“Monday will certainly be a beautiful day, maybe slightly cooler with a 20 degree high and a 10 degree low,” says Castellan. “Then bouncing back early in the week, there will be a moderate ridge (of high pressure); nothing strong like what we saw in July and August, but certainly a little bit warmer than normal - perhaps by a degree or two by the time we get to the middle of next week.”
As far as air quality goes, the health risk remains low on the Air Quality Health Index, with cooler temperatures providing some relief from the wildfire smoke that lingered over the Okanagan for three weeks.
