West Kelowna City Council has set the price for applying for a licence to operate a pot store at 7500 dollar. Councillor Brayden Winsby made the motion. He says they have no idea how many applications they'll see. One thing is certain, they didn't want to go as high as Kelowna's 10 thousand dollars. Councillor Winsby says they feel their fee decision is adequate based on what they believe costs will be.
When marajuana is legalized, West Kelowna will ban pot in public. They'll treat it the same as alcohol. Winsby says you can't sit on a park bench and drink a mickey of scotch so why should you be able to smoke a joint. Winsby is concerned about enforcement though. He says it's one thing to have a law in place but if there's no way of enforcing it, you've got a problem.
Councillor Brayden Winsby says the issues surrounding legalization are many. He says it's hard to anticipate both problems and potential solutions. West Kelowna council has adpted a go slow approach, be restrictive and then loosen those restrictions as needed.
