This Saturday (Sept 22) you can get 'A Taste of Fringe' at Kelowna's Rotary Centre for the Arts.
Organizer Melina Moran says it's a preview of what audiences can expect at a Fringe Festival they're planning for the fall of 2019.
"So the idea is to build the community support and understanding of what Fringe is, and what you can expect in a four day festival. So, we would have different venues throughout the city, most likely the cultural district. One of the rules of Fringe is that ticket prices are set at a maximum of $11.00, so it's really open to guests of all ages - there's family shows and adult shows - it's a real treat, a real surprise," she says.
Moran says the two headliners Saturday are Melanie Gall in a Sophie Tucker cabaret titled "Red Hot Mama". She says Gall takes the stage as Tucker, recapping her rise through early 20th-century vaudeville, cabaret and Hollywood while giving a performance at the peak of her career.
And Moran says Rag Mop theatre will perform "Hotel Vortruba" - a surreal, wordless physical comedy that features other-worldly room service, broken lamps, creaky floorboards, and giant rats.
She says the troupe utilizes their skills in mime, clown, magic, puppetry, dance, and circus arts which earned rave reviews at the 2018 Edmonton Fringe Festival.
An 'After Party' will also feature indoor street-style performances.
