Accelerate Okanagan is looking to do just that: accelerate growth in the Okanagan's technology sector.
The company's mission is to give startup tech companies and entrepreneurs in the region the tools required to get a good business start using programs such as Startup Basics and RevUP.
At a conference on Thursday, $473,000 in funding towards Accelerate Okanagan was announced from the Federal Government of Canada.
With this funding, the organization looks to focus on building up clean technology and indigenous entrepreneurs, as well as expand into places in British Columbia outside the Okanagan.
A focal point in the conference was the importance of developing indigenous entrepreneurs in the region.
"The indigenous population is the fastest growing segment of Canadian society" said Kelowna-Lake Country Member of Parliament Stephen Fuhr. "We know that programs and boosts, entrepreneurial spirit, and vibrant, growing communities benefit all Canadians."
In 2015, it was reported that the Okanagan's tech industry had contributed 1.3 billion to the Okanagan's economy, with an annual growth rate of 15 percent in the last two years, making it the fastest growing tech sector in Canada today.
