If you hold a Bank of Montreal credit card and have used the PayByPhone app recently, you may want to check your statements.
In the last month, BMO credit card holders have been experiencing an additional $5.00 fee every time they park.
According to Andrew Rolston, Kelowna's Parking Operations Coordinator, a new BMO policy took effect on August 1st, triggering additional charges to multiple accounts.
“It was an issue with some coding in the transactions, I believe it was only stemming from pay-by-phone transactions, which was attracting a cash advance fee from BMO credit card holders,” said Rolston.
The City plans to have the glitch fixed within a week and encourages PayByPhone app users to check their card statements on a regular basis.
In the meantime, the Bank of Montreal agreed to reverse any charges associated with the error.
If you have experienced an accidental cash advance fee, contact BMO’s customer contact centre at 1-844-837-9228 or the phone number displayed on the back of your credit card.
