An affordable housing project announced for Kelowna last year is back on the table.
Last December, BC Housing announced a modular complex that would be built onto Commerce Avenue, between Enterprise Way and the 97 Corridor.
After concerns from nearby businesses and property owners over the aesthetics of the design, the province rescinded its development permit application to the city, with plans to upgrade the design.
That new design is back on council's agenda on Monday, though the number of proposed units has decreased from 55 to 46.
If the application is approved, the building would be in place by the end of this year, and would be operated by the John Howard Society.
BC Housing says the nature of the modular units is to provide temporary housing, and that it's secured a four year lease, with an option to extend for three years.
The building would consist of 46 studio units, and would be made available to people who are currently, or at risk of homelessness.
There are also services onsite that include a dining room, medical services room, and laundry facilities.
To address safety, the province says the property will be wired with CCTV, which will be monitored 24/7.
