With an increased demand for aircraft technicians in BC, Minister of Advanced Education Melanie Mark announced Thursday that the Okanagan College's Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Structures program would be getting a boost.
The program currently takes 14 students, but now there will be a second intake of students going forward.
A partnership between the Industry Training Authority KF Aerospace, andthe Aerospace Industries Association of Canada has allowed students in this program to flourish and find employment in the industry after their schooling.
KF Aerospace in Kelowna has always hired the entire class of the College's program, although the total number of apprentices needed amounts to around 20.
It was reported that in 2016, nearly 3000 aircraft mechanics were hired in BC alone, with half of that number coming from Vancouver, and 11 percent from Kelowna.
