28-year-old Chad Alphonse will return to court on October 2nd and 3rd to be sentenced for manslaughter.
The Kelowna man was first arrested in March of 2016 after an argument at a party escalated into a fight, and ended with the stabbing death of 26-year-old Waylon Jackson.
At the end of a three-week trial this past March, a jury found Alphonse guilty of manslaughter, and not guilty of his initial charge of second degree murder.
Since then, the court has received a Gladue report on Alphonse, which looks into the background of an Indigenous person prior to sentencing.
Alphonse remains out on bail at this time.
