Island Health confirms another case of whooping cough in Central Saanich.
Medical Health Officer Dr. Dee Hoyano says symptoms include a strong, persistent cough that can even cause vomiting.
The cough is particularly concerning for young babies.
Hoyano says there's a vaccine to fight whopping cough or pertussis.
"Our immunization program in BC is focused on protecting those who are at highest risk of pertusis complications, so that's essentially babies, particularily under one year of age, and so that's why it's very important for children to have their immunizations when they are two months old and going on from there," says Hoyano.
She says so far this year, there have been 20 cases of whooping cough reported in the Greater Victoria area - that's about average.
