In 2017 and 2018, we experienced record setting flooding and fires.
With this being 'Emergency Preparedness Week', it's a chance to make sure you are prepared when disaster strikes.
"The last few years have show the Central Okanagan that things can happen. I would say we are more prepared but you would be surprised at the people who hear it and know it and when you say, 'show me your kit', they say they don't really have one".
Central Okanagan Emergency Program Coordinator Sandra Follack says every home should have an emergency kit, so they can leave at a moments notice.
"We have cordemergency.ca. It will tell you where to find the wildfire map. What the emergency is. Where it is. Who is being affected. What the alerts are. It provides a ton of information," Follack added.
Emergency Preparedness Week is May 5th to 11th.
