The decision to stay in his hotel room allowed for a man from Kelowna to pick up a $150,000 dollar cash prize on Super Bowl Sunday.
32-year-old Ryan Klein was up finished a shift in Kamloops, when he tuned into CTV's broadcast, and entered their cash giveaway through text messages.
He says he can thank the weather for being there.
"It was a bad blizzard outside, and originally I was going to go to the pub. And then it was just to windy and snowy that I just said you know what, I think I'm going to stay in tonight. And you know what happened from there," he said.
What happened from there is that after texting in the final key word, he saw the name "Ryan K from Kelowna" pop up on the screen.
"At first obviously my heart started pounding out of my chest. And as I started thinking about it, I know a couple other Ryan K's, and there easily could be 10 or 15 in Kelowna. I calmed myself down and said there's a good chance you still didn't get this, but I was still really worked up," he said.
"About 20 minutes went by, and next thing you know, my phone is ringing, I looked down, and it said Ontario. So as soon as I saw that, I pretty much knew."
Klein says he's got a few ideas of what to do with the cash.
"Definitely pay off some bills, and I'm going to put a little bit of money away for my daughter. I mean, I was going to get a golf membership anyway out at the Okanagan Club, so I'll definitely take care of that right away," he said.
"There's a few things I want, but I want to put some away for just a cushion."
