UPDATE - 3:50 PM
The BMO on Bernard Avenue is operating normally after the early morning fire, although repairs to the front entranceway are ongoing, and a security guard is in place as a precaution.
The damage from the early morning fire is minimal; apart from the burnt entrance mat, the glass walls and doors of the entranceway are tinted with smoke.
Assistant Branch Manager Jeffrey Shoon says the suspect's reason for slipping a piece of paper lit on fire into the bank remains a mystery.
"I wouldn't hazard a guess as to what someone's motivation would be," says Schoon. "We're in proximity to Leon and Lawrence, where there's definitely an increased homeless population, so in this area of town we do see some criminal activity from time to time, but nothing to this extent before."
Schoon says security personnel will be going over surveillance footage before working with police to try and identify the suspect.

Fire crews responded to an early morning report of a fire, in the lobby, at the Bank of Montreal on Bernard Avenue.
Smoke was scene in the lobby but no visible flame.
Captain Ron Golling says it appears someone set a piece of paper on fire, slid it under the door and fled the scene.
"When we arrived on the scene we saw lite smoke in the entry way. Some security guys had seen somebody light some paper and slide it through the glass door which started the floor mat on fire"
The call came in at around 5:45 am.
