Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran announced Thursday morning that he will be seeking a second mayoral term.
Basran made the announcement to a crowd of supporters at the Okanagan Center for Innovation.
“Serving this community through one of the most prosperous times in this city’s history has been the experience of a lifetime and something that I will cherish for the rest of my life,” says Basran. “I’m proud to be a part of a team that has accomplished so much.”
Basran notes that Kelowna’s economy and arts sector were stronger than ever, and that he looks forward to tackling the issues of homelessness and transportation during a potential second term.
“With success, we know comes challenges,” says Basran. “I look forward to working with you to advance both short term and long term innovative strategies to deal with your concerns that not only will make our city better, but will be models for communities across the country.”
Basran was elected to City Council in 2011 and served one term before being elected Mayor in 2014. He was 37 at the start of his first mayoral term; the youngest of any Mayor in Kelowna.
The upcoming civic election takes place October 20th.
