Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran says he'll make a point of asking potential candidates vying to be the next RCMP superintendent their take on mental health issues.
"Absolutely it is something that anybody that we are interviewing will be asked about, how they in their minds would like to see this addressed moving forward. But we all know this now is the RCMP can't address this on their own. Mental health and addictions, as we know, are not a policing issue per-say."
Basran told AM 1150's Early Edition he has a meeting with Interior Health on the topic this week.
The mayor points out mental health calls to Kelowna RCMP are growing at "a very high rate."
