Mayor Colin Basran says he's got a busy week ahead of him at the Union of BC Municipalities convention in Vancouver.
On Monday, Basran was part of a mayor's caucus meeting that spent time with the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
"She (Selina Robinson) met with us and addressed all of the mayors in the province, to re-iterate this provincial government's continued support in the budget for housing initiatives through BC Housing, particularly as it pertains to supportive housing for people with addiction and mental health issues, and as well as housing for the homeless. And then affordable housing as well," he said.
"We had another meeting with (Robinson) just to update them on the water integration plans that we have, and to see what the new government's plans are, in terms of helping us accomplish that. I also have a meeting with the premier himself, to discuss the various issues in Kelowna."
He says that sit-down with John Horgan will also be their first time meeting each other.
Basran says the other big news of his day came from Solicitor General Mike Farnworth, who's said the province will hold wide-spread consultations in preparation for the legalization of pot next year.
"Probably the biggest thing that we will be championing is the fact that we need resources, or a cut of the profits if you will, of marijuana sales, because we know we're going to be the ones tasked with resourcing and implementing the rules," he said.
"We need to make sure that our municipality receives its fair share of the profits, to be able to pay for those resources."
The UBCM event runs all the way through the end of the week.
