It's been tough on BC forest workers and their families.
The president and C-E-O of the BC Council of Forest Industries says the industry has significant challenges.
"We've got market and operating challenges", said Susan Yurkovich. "We're paying 20.23 percent on average duties to the U-S, and we've got increasing competition around the globe."
The industry is struggling with mill closures and curtailments leading to substantial job loses. The Tolko mill in Kelowna was shut down indefinitely last week.
"We are going to have this period of transition", Yurkovich said. "We won't be the same industry. But we can have a very vibrant industry if we make some choices abut how we set ourselves up for success going forward."
The provincial government has announced $69 million dollars in funding to help workers, their families and communities that depend on forestry.
