The City of Kelowna has been patiently waiting for its turn to cash in on provincial funding for homeless housing.
And now, that wait is being cut down.
On Friday, BC Housing announced three projects that will help Kelowna's homeless get into living spaces.
The biggest one is an 8.1 million dollar commitment for 52 units of modular housing.
Unfortunately, the province says a location hasn't been nailed down for that yet, though talks continue with city staff.
A piece of provincial land on Commerce Avenue south of Enterprise will be the site of 55 units of modular housing.
BC Housing says it's working to re-purpose buildings that have already been constructed, with hopes of bringing the 3.4 million dollar project online in early 2018.
It says in the meantime, the former Good Night Inn will take up to 20 people, as it's been refurbished since the province bought it back in September.
Finally, the province will put up funding for a temporary winter shelter downtown, at the old A&B Sound store on Leon.
It'll be staffed and operated by the local John Howard Society, and provide meals, beds, and services to the homeless between now and March.
