One of the most beautiful lakes in BC is also one of most deadly.
The BC Coroner Service says between 2008 and 2016, 24 people died on Okanagan Lake.
Jessica George of the Red Cross says people who can't swim need to be extremely cautious.
"There are people that go out on the water and don't know how to swim and they are not wearing life jackets. You can never plan exactly when a capsize is going to take place in your canoe, kayak or paddleboard".
Across Canada, most drowning deaths take place in July when beaches are filled with people unfamiliar with the depth of the water.
"Water toys of any size are not a substitute for adult supervision. They (children) must be watched at all times," George added.
