A 61-year-old Beaverdell man is in police custody on several potential charges related to an incident at a Wal-Mart location in Kelowna.
On Wednesday, August 1st, at 2:40 PM, security guards at the Wal-Mart reported that the suspect, who was allegedly attempting to flee with stolen goods, attacked one of the guards with a can of bear spray.
“Despite being assaulted, and while feeling the full immediate disabling effects of the bear spray, the 33-year-old Loss Prevention Officer managed to apprehend the suspect and keep him in custody until police arrived on scene,” says RCMP Corporal Jesse O'Donaghey.
The bear spray also injured eight bystanders, ages ranging from 1 to 61. All were medically assessed at the scene by the BC Ambulance Service.
