Bell is donating $25,000 to help build a Child Advocacy Centre in Kelowna.
The project is being spearheaded by the Kelowna Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of Child and Family Development, Interior Health, and the RCMP.
"It will be a community driven organization which will serve to provide response for children who have been impacted by abuse in their family."
The Executive Director of the Kelowna Foundation, Ginny Becker, was on AM 1150's Early Edition.
"Just the ability for all of us to be able to decide there's a better way to respond to child abuse in the community is the hardest part of the work." said Becker. "Everything that follows takes energy and time and commitment but we'll get it there"
The money was raised through Bell Let's Talk. The annual campaign aims to erase stigma around mental illness and raise money for mental health initiatives.
"These centres are no one agency's responsibility to build." said Becker. "It's a significant amount for us to be able to continue to climb that hill."
She is hopeful the centre will be funded and ready to open in the fall.
