Bladder dams are going up along the shoreline of Okanagan Lake to protect areas prone to flooding.
The plastic barrier is put into place, filled with water and protects property in the same way sandbags would.
Trevor Wright of Calgary owns a series of Tiger Dam systems like the one installing at Pritchard Park in West Kelowna.
"The big flood in Alberta in 2013, their was a lot of Tiger Dams employed there. There are a lot of Tiger Dams employed in Manitoba. All down the Eastern seaboard, do to all of the hurricanes and weather they get there, it is all around the world that these are used".
Wright says a 50 foot section of the bladder dam essentially acts like 700 sandbags and can be deployed in about 10 minutes.
A similar bladder dam is installed at Pebble Beach.
