The Black Mountain Irrigation District has issued a Boil Water Notice, affecting approximately 22,500 people in Kelowna.
A valve that regulates flow of treated water from Mission Creek into the water distribution system has malfunctioned. That means the system can't keep up with the increased demand that comes with warmer weather. To maintain water supply the district is bypassing the water treatment plant and using water directly from Mission Creek. That water quality is poor due to spring runoff.
Black Mountain users should boil water for at least a minute before drinking, washing edibles or brushing teeth.
The repairs are expected to keep the boil water status in effect for about 2 weeks.
