A woman wants something done about needles being left behind at local parks after her nephew stepped on one.
Kylee Roman told AM1150's Early Edition host Phil Johnson it happened last weekend when the 6-year-old boy was at City Park with his grandparents.
“My nephew stepped on what he though was a screw, he goes ‘papa, papa I think I stepped on a screw’ and it turned out to be a used needle.”
She says he had to be taken to the hospital because the needle went through his shoe. Tests show he's at "low risk" of developing an infection.
Roman says parents and children shouldn't have to worry about needles at parks, especially since there are safe injection sites in the city.
"That should not happen, in a park, in City Park, where so many people go."
