The Father's Day Charity Car Show, an annual event hosted by Boyd Autobody and run 100 per cent by volunteers, raised a pretty impressing penny this year.
On Thursday Tony Bonin, Boyd’s Regional Manager, revealed the $53,000 cheque to the community.
“The thing about that amount is it was based on a single day event but it was also based on a different approach this year of raffling off a mustang that was rebuilt and brought back up. And it was that raffle that really skyrocketed the event for us this year,” said Bonin.
The raffle generated $26,500 with Boyd also directly donating an additional $27,029.91.
This donation is part of a three-year commitment that Boyd Autobody has made to support the Child Advocacy Centre project (CAC).
Next year's event will bring back another car auction, whose model will be unveiled well in advance.
“Getting the mileage and the exposure from [next year’s] car specifically for the CAC, that's our goal; and building up the hype for it and then doing the live giveaway right at the Father's Day car show. I think we did the tickets for twenty bucks and people were buying them in batches,” said Bonin.
Boyd's Autobody has done a fair share for the Kelowna Community.
Bonnin said working at Boyd’s has taught him the strength of giving back to the community in different ways.
“We're always sitting down and saying down and saying how we are going to do this and who is going to benefit. Cops for Kids, we just wrote a cheque to them not to long ago and that's our headlight restoration program, but the carbeques, it's an ongoing summer rental, everybody loves them, whether it’s a private event or a corporate function, 100 per cent of it has gone back to the SPCA for a number of years.”
Planning for next year's Father’s Day Car Show is already underway.
Bonin said Boyd is going to story the production of the auction car, complete with tear down and restoration.
