Central Okanagan Unions and Labour organizations come together tomorrow at the Parkinson Rec Centre, in support of postal workers. The rally begins at 9.
Amalgamated Transit Union President Scott Lovell says the federal back to work legislation takes away a constitutional right to freely bargain.
Lovell says, "We will be there certainly to back them up and ensure that they understand that an abuse to one union is an injury to us all and back to work legislation is an abuse of our constitutional right. That's an injury to us."
Lovell praises the Kelowna CUP-W membership for being phenomenal at supporting workers throughout the Okanagan. It's easy for us to support them he says.
The Amalgamated Transit Union contract with First Transit, the operating company for public transit in the Central Okanagan, expires at the end of March 2019.
Lovell says, "Contract negotiations begin toward the end of January and we hope for good and fruitful discussions."
