Interior Health is urging people to take the self-assessment test on the BC CDC website or call 811 for an assessment before calling the Kelowna's urgent and primary care centre.
IH says more than half the calls they receive do not result in a test and many are unrelated to testing.
With a surge in calls to the Kelowna testing site, IH says they are looking to bring in additional supports.
The organization is asking people to have patience, noting calls may get dropped due to high call volumes and people should call back in an hour if they cannot get through.
Non-symptomatic people do not need to be tested.
