Nomination packages are now available through the Office of the City Clerk at Kelowna City Hall for anyone considering running in the 2018 General Local Election this fall.
Anyone who has an interest in joining City Council or the School District No.23 Board of Education is encouraged to pick up a package. “Come and get as much information as you can. We even encourage people to make sure you talk with your friends and family about the commitment,” said Karen Needham, Kelowna’s Chief Election Officer. “We have our information night on the 23rd of August(6:30pm at Kelowna City Hall), just trying to give them a big picture of what being on council or being on the school trustee will be like.”
On Saturday, Oct. 20, Kelowna residents will vote in the General Local Election to elect a Mayor and eight Councillors to the City of Kelowna Council for the 2018-2022 term. In addition, voters will elect four trustees to the School District No. 23 Board of Education.
So far 9 nomination packages have been picked up in Kelowna. For council there are 3 anonymous hopefuls, incumbents Luke Stack and Ryan Donn, along with newcomers Loyal Wooldridge and Amarjit Lalli. Rolli Cacchioni has picked up the paperwork for school trustee nomination. Robert Schewe is the lone person to pickup a mayoral package, although current Mayor, Colin Basran has announced his intention to run again this fall.
In West Kelowna residents will be choosing a new mayor, six councillors and one school trustee. Nomination packages can be picked up at West Kelowna City Hall.
To be eligible to run for local government office you must: Be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years of age on election day, have lived in British Columbia for at least six months prior to the nomination date and not be disqualified from being nominated, elected or holding office.
Nomination papers must be completed and between Sept. 4 at 9 a.m. and Sept. 14 at 4 p.m.
