The car driven by a suspect in a recent Surrey homicide has been found in Kelowna.
RCMP say 29-year-old Birinderjeet Justin Bhangu was shot and killed in the parking lot of a Comfort Inn Hotel while he was sitting in his car on Monday, March 13.
Staff Sergeant Jennifer Pound with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says a Nissan Pathfinder, driven by the unidentified shooter, was located in Kelowna the next day.
“We had sent out a number of be on the lookout alerts to other police jurisdictions and intelligence agencies, and it was the very next day, on March 14, that the vehicle was recovered in the Kelowna area”
She says it’s possible the suspect is still in the Kelowna area, but it’s also possible he’s now somewhere else.
Police say Bhangu was known to officers and they believe the shooting was related to his “criminal lifestyle”.
Pound says the shooting took place at around 2:30pm in broad daylight and a couple of people were in the parking lot at the time.
“The brazen, sort of selfish, arrogant shooting that he did will hopefully drive people forward with information”
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is hoping the public can help identify and locate the suspect.
