The BC Supreme Court has approved an injunction regarding striking Gateway Casino employees in Kelowna and Vernon. The employer argued that customers are feeling uncomfortable and that picketing in certain areas should be considered trespassing, including the causeway at the Kelowna location.
The judge’s ruling doesn't stop the picketing. It just prohibits demonstrations on private property.
Gateway Casinos and the BC Government Employees Union will head back to mediation for a 5th time next week, to try and close the gap on salary negotiations. The BCGEU is seeking a pay increase, closer to what they feel is a "living wage."
It's been over a month since the 2 sides sat down with a mediator.
Close to 700 BCGEU members from Kelowna, Penticton, Kamloops and Vernon have been striking since June 29th.
