The exact cause of the wildfire in West Kelowna, over the weekend, could not be determined - but West Kelowna Fire Chief Jason Brolund says it appears to have started off a trail above Boucherie Road.
The blaze, which was fanned by strong winds Saturday evening, forced the evacuation of Mission Hill Winery and about 50 homes on two nearby streets. It grew to about 5 hectares in size before being contained. Everyone was back home later on Saturday night.
Brolund says the fire is considered suspicious - there were signs of human activity in the area, including campfire pits and garbage and debris. RCMP are continuing to investigate, and anyone with information is asked to contact police.
Sunday afternoon, fire crews were putting out hot spots, and Brolund reminds everyone the fire danger rating in our area is now "high".
