Central Okanagan fire departments have answered the call for help with the wildfires in the Central Interior.
A total of 17 firefighters from Lake Country, Kelowna, West Kelowna and Peachland are helping in either the Williams Lake area or the 100 Mile House region.
3 fire engines and a water tanker have also been sent up.
“Given what they’re facing right now, they were looking for support from outside the community to compliment the firefighters that are there in town,” said Kelowna Fire Chief Travis Whiting.
He says Kelowna has received outside support with wildfires in the past, and wanted to help with the communities in their time of need.
A statement echoed by West Kelowna Fire Chief Jason Brolund.
“My main priority as Fire Chief in this community is to make sure our community is well protected,” he said “But all of that said, we’ve also received a lot of help over the years from communities outside of our area, outside of our region, and from across the province, so we do feel like when others need help we need to do what we can to help pay that back.”
Most of the deployments are set to last 6 days however that may change if conditions worsen.
