Tourism Kelowna's plans for a waterfront visitor centre are both well researched and thought-out.
That's according to the Chamber of Commerce's president Tom Dyas, who released a statement in support of the project today.
He says after sharing space with Tourism Kelowna on Harvey Avenue for 30 years, it's clear the operational needs have shifted, and that the new plans have been supported by nearly three quarters of people surveyed.
The Chamber is also praising the plans' shift to downsize the scope of the building, and have a setback from the boardwalk, which came from public consultation.
Dyas says that the Chamber realizes vibrant city centres contribute to the growth of local business, and that the new building will have retail space utilized by some of those businesses.
The statement comes after the site has seen opposition from locals who view the plans as a commercialization of the waterfront.
The Chamber and Tourism organizations began sharing the space near Harvey and Ellis back in 1986.
