Interior Health is advising residents that drinking water may be impacted during and after floods.
The IHA's Courtney Hesketh says flooding can increase the risk of raw sewage, chemical contaminants, and debris being introduced into the water.
"Flood water does have the potential to be contaminated. Many disease causing micro agents such as E Coli may be present in water impacted by flooding."
Hesketh says if the public is unsure of the safety of their water, they should use an alternate source such as bottled water and visit their Regional District website to see if the drinking water has been impacted.
"One of the best percautions to take around floodwater is washing your hands frequently, especially after coming into direct contact with the water or touching objects that have been in contact with the water", Hesketh adds.
