The city is hosting three engagement sessions over the next week to get feedback on future plans for the Capri Landmark area, which stretches from Gordon to Spall, between Harvey and Springfield.
The neighbourhood is currently the city's top priority for building an urban centre plan, which will guide future development.
While the area has many commercial developments, the city would like to see more residential space open up.
Project Manager Ross Soward says that means they need to make sure there's infrastructure to support that.
"As we think about future transportation enhancements and network upgrades in this area, we're really looking at the area can become more walkable, how the area can support transit, and transit-oriented development, things of that nature," he said.
"As well as looking at how people will be to access employment in the area."
Soward says specific changes would be centred around making it a more identifiable area, along with the development of a main street, like Bernard or Pandosy.
"As we look for it to be a more successful urban centre, we're going to need to have more of a balance in terms of the commercial and residential uses in the longer term, so looking how we boost that. We need to also think about how we create more of a local character and identity for this area, so in the same way that we've been very successful with that, in some of the work downtown and (on) Pandosy," he said.
"Having kind of a main street area where we could focus retail areas, where we could focus more of a pedestrian-oriented streetscape. Maybe it could also be an area that would be kind of critical in helping to define or showcase the identity of the area."
The three info sessions are happening on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday, as well as online on the city's website.
