As of December 15th, the public will be able to use the City Hall parking lot starting immediately after City Hall closes at 4 p.m. (Monday to Friday).
A parking rate of $1 per hour from 4 p.m. until 11 p.m. will also come into effect at that time. On weekends and holidays, public parking is available all day with rates of $1 per hour or $6 per day from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The City Hall parking lot is reserved for monthly permit holders from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday with the exception of stalls fronting Water Street designated for City business use only with registration of a license plate number.
The new public availability is two hours earlier than what was previously permitted and the parking rates are the same as those in effect at other City owned lots in the area.
“The City Hall parking lot is in a prime location and is one of the first to fill-up during events like hockey games and concerts,” says Dave Duncan, Parking Services Manager. “The new hours will increase the public’s ability to use the lot. The introduction of pay parking, meanwhile, will help ensure stalls are available for short-term parkers and encourage long-term parkers to use a nearby parkade.”
City Hall is within walking distance of three parkades (Library, Chapman and Memorial) that offer no-charge parking in the evenings and on weekends and holidays, except during special events.
These changes were approved by City Council on Sept. 11 and are consistent with the City’s Parking Management Strategy. As part of that strategy, the City is also updating the Downtown Area Parking Plan.
