City staff are hosting a public meeting on the upcoming roundabout construction at Lakeshore and Collette Road in the Mission.
Along with the new roundabout, crews will replace a watermain on Lakeshore, and make some repairs to the Bellevue Creek Bridge.
Infrastructure Manager Brian Beach says after existing overseas for awhile, roundabouts are starting to pop up everywhere across North America.
"There's so much safer than traffic light intersections. I mean, that human desire to run the yellow while somebody's turning left in front of you, and that moment of uncertainty. That's the biggest conflict in intersections, and the roundabout eliminates that."
He says workers will try to be as accomodating as possible to traffic.
"We still can't afford a full closure there with the businesses that are there, the wineries down at the south end, we've got to keep it open," he said.
"We're also going to piggyback, since we're there anyway and making a mess, we've got to do a little bit of work on that bridge at Bellevue Creek. We've got to do some repairs there, give that bridge a little more life until we can afford to replace it in eight or so years."
Beach also says that if work starts getting behind, they have the ability to work evenings and weekends to finish, as the city is using its own staff, and not a private contractor, on the project.
To avoid more construction delays in the future, crews will also replace a watermain in the area, along with the bridge repairs.
Neighbours can get questions answered on this project at a meeting at St. Andrews Church, between 4 and 6:30 on Wednesday.
