Interim CAO appointed and recruitment process underway at City of West Kelowna
Council appointed Mr. Ron Mattiussi, of R.L. Mattiussi Advisory Services Inc., as the City of West Kelowna’s Interim Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), effective immediately through mid-May 2024. With CAO Paul Gipps’s departure on Feb. 9, Council also selected Leaders International to conduct the executive search for a CAO. Learn more at westkelownacity.ca/news.
Coun. Stephen Johnston congratulated on nomination
Mayor Milsom congratulated Coun. Stephen Johnston after the B.C. United Party announced him as their candidate for West Kelowna-Peachland in the upcoming provincial election scheduled on Oct. 19. Johnston was thanked for his ongoing commitment to serve our community and wished good luck.
Community invited to enjoy free Family Day events

Funding strategies confirmed for major projects
Council approved funding strategies for waterfront Multi-use Pathway Connections, a Quint Fire Truck and the Operations Yard Project. Learn more at pub-westkelowna.escribemeetings.com.
Mount Boucherie Community Centre restoration next steps
Council directed staff to proceed with plans to create 80 childcare spaces, using grant funding received from the Childcare BC New Spaces Fund, in Mount Boucherie Community Centre, which will be restored after staff move to the new purpose-built City Hall Library Building. Council also approved a Progressive Design Build process for the project and will report back to Council later this year on next steps.
AAP process announced for Fire Hall #32 Replacement Project
Council approved the process and Elector Response Form for the Alternative Approval Process, or AAP, to seek elector assent for borrowing up to $8 million toward the Fire Hall #32 Replacement Project. Those in favour need to do nothing. Eligible electors who are opposed must submit Elector Response Forms to Municipal Hall, at 2760 Cameron Road, between Tuesday, Feb. 20 and Thursday, March 21. Development Permit with Variances approved in the Gellatly/Goats Peak neighbourhood
Council authorized a Multiple Family and Intensive Residential and Hillside Development Permit for townhouses to be constructed at 3830 Gellatly Road. Council also authorized Zoning Bylaw variances including reducing the minimum side parcel boundary setback from 3.0 to 1.93 metres, decreasing the minimum rear setback from 7.5 to 4.25 metres, and narrowing the minimum driveway width from 7.0 to 6.0 meters along the central access road over a FortisBC natural gas right of way.
Electrification strategy approved
Council approved a three-stage strategy to further electrify municipal resources within the next seven years, subject to ongoing annual budget deliberations, to curb greenhouse gas emissions, as outlined in the City’s Corporate Climate Action Plan, the B.C. Climate Action Charter, to which the City is a signatory, and the CleanBC Roadmap to 2023. The strategy includes installation of at least 30 Level II charging stations, starting this year, at various facilities including the new City Hall/Library Building, and ensuring no less than 29 of City’s 97 fleet vehicles are electrically powered by 2030. Other plans include working with B.C. Hydro to find suitable locations to install faster charging Level III stations
