Just over a month after initially calling for a water quality advisory, the City of Kelowna has partially lifted it.
Water Quality Supervisor Ed Hoppe (Hoppy) says the cut-off is KLO Road, with properties north of there off the advisory, and properties south still on it.
"We basically have four intakes for the City of Kelowna. Our main intake is the Poplar Point intake, which services primarily all of the northern area of the city," he said.
"We have noticed some improvement of the water quality, specifically at that intake. And so basically all the water that's serviced up into KLO Road is serviced by Poplar Point."
He says hopefully a similar announcement will happen in the coming weeks for people south of KLO.
"It's been steadily improving now for several weeks. We're not quite at that point where we can make that call to have that removed," he said.
"We're hoping in the next week or two to have that rescinded, but again that depends on the settling rate of the turbidity, and then as well as some independent bacterial testing."
The advisory was initially sent out on May 12, thanks to high levels of turbidity in an over-filled lake, and recommended that people with weaker immune systems boil water before consuming it.
Before this, it had been more than 20 years since the city utility had issued an advisory.
