Crews from the Ministry of Environment are dusting off the welcome mat for the arrival of spawning salmon.
Starting tomorrow, July 26th, work will begin to clean the spawning channel and the settling pond in Mission Creek Regional Park. During this time, visitors to Mission Creek Regional Park, the Mission Creek Greenway and the spawning channel should watch for signage and stay out of marked areas and trails when heavy equipment is operating.
Debris and sediment is deposited during the spring so each year, any material that settles in the channel is removed and the gravel in the channel is pressure washed in order to improve the potential for successful spawning by the land-locked fresh water salmon.
