A park that's not in the budget for the city could still become a reality.
The KLO Neighbourhood Association has told the city it wants to raise 1.7 million dollars to build Pandosy Waterfront Park, which would be at the foot of Cedar Avenue, as it merges into Walnut Street.
Last year, the site had been proposed as a possible dog beach.
Parks Manager Robert Parlane says they'd like to pause that discussion.
"The concept of a dog beach; staff recognize it has never been tested. We also recognize the issue of dog beaches is very polarizing in the public, and we think it could therefore be a significant hinderance to (the Association) in terms of the fundraising," he said
"Staff are therefore proposing not to include an off-leash dog park at this time, in this location. However it may be considered in the future."
Though the rationale upset dog park advocate Charlie Hodge, Councillor Brad Sieben sided with staff.
"I certainly understand where Councillor Hodge is coming with this, however I concur with Councillor Given that traffic could be an issue," he said.
"I think it's one thing that could be added at a later date, but sure is hard to take away if you launch that way."
The city has set aside 2.2 million of the 6.7 million cost of the project, but hadn't planned to build it for another decade.
Along with KLO's plan for fundraising, council also approved plans to allow access to waterfront parks off of Manhattan Drive, Swick Road, and Bluebird Road.
