Beginning on Feb. 15, Phase 1 of the Rowcliffe Community Park development, located at Rowcliffe Avenue and Richter Street, will begin construction.
The north fence of the existing temporary dog park will be relocated southward to facilitate construction.
“The first phase of park construction will focus on the north side of the park, where the new playground will be located,” said Robert Parlane, Parks and Buildings Planning Manager. “A new piece of public art will also be installed immediately adjacent to the park, and once fully complete, the overall park design will include a new recreation sports field, walking/running loop and a smaller urban off-leash dog park.”
The new community park and Central Green development will promote pedestrian and cyclist-friendly lifestyles. Once development is complete, this will be the first neighbourhood in Kelowna to be LEED certified(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).
Improvements in future phases will include a large central field for informal games of soccer, ultimate Frisbee, volleyball, football and picnicking, as well as community gardens and a perimeter walking track.
