The Central Okanagan Search and Rescue is looking for a few good people. COSAR is recruiting new members until September 26th. President, Dan Schlosser says it takes commitment as you could be called out day or night. You also need to be in, or prepared to get in, good physical shape. COSAR gets about 60 calls a year from their territory takes in Big White. He says the increase in water recreation is a big reason for a doubling in the number of distress calls in recent years. Schlosser says hunters and fishermen are the worst for filing route and time plans, along with mushroom hunters who like to keep their discoveries private. He also warns hikers and others who think their cellphones will get them out of trouble, to make sure their battery is charged and make sure there is cell reception where you are going.
