City council is signing off on annual increases for the Uptown Rutland Business Association's budget.
President Mike Koutsantonis says it's a part of the association's vision for the next five years.
"We're not asking for a ton, we like to think we're prudent with our money, and we can spend it efficiently," he said.
"Our events will raise us a fair bit of money, and we're looking at different grants. We're looking at a 2.5% rate increase over the next four years, and a 5% (increase in) year five."
With that, the budget will rise from $180,000 to $194,000 over the next four years, and take another jump to $204,000 in 2022.
He says on top of organizing local events and marketing initiatives, they've got long term objectives as well.
"Flexible housing, affordability for seniors, students, family. Can the city offer some incentives in that respect?" he said.
"We see Rutland as the closest community to UBCO, so it's a really great area for students to live. We've got all the ammenities now, with the new transit (exchange) going through that's going to help big time."
Most of that budget is compiled through a special tax paid by owners of 150 businesses in the Rutland town centre, which is roughly bordered by Hollywood Road, Highway 33, Rutland Road, and McIntosh Road.
