The Mission Group's mega high-rise apartment project called Aqua is taking a step forward.
Last night, council approved the re-zoning of the site of a project that would add three apartment towers - that range between 13 and 19 storeys - to the waterfront on Truswell Road - just south of the Eldorado.
The public hearing featured many people from the neighbourhood speak against the project.
One of those was Darrin Grams, who lives in the River Run condos on Truswell.
He says projects like this will create too much traffic, with not enough infrastructure to support it.
"If you travel down that road already, you know that when that light turns red on Lakeshore Road, how much that traffic gets backed up already. Lakehore Road is underbuilt" he said.
"We're going to keep adding to it and adding to it and adding to it with all of these developments. Fine, we understand that development has to happen. But why this development? And why that many units?"
And while some capped off their complaints there, others accused council of rubber stamping big housing projects in the area, without fully considering the future.
Mayor Colin Basran says that criticism isn't a fair one.
"I did want to address a couple of the comments that were made, that council is guilty of just planning for today and not tomorrow, which is absolutely ridiculous," he said.
"I think even just looking at our $1 billion infrastructure plan, which takes us to 2030, to say that we're not planning for the future is absolutely ridiculous."
Councillor Luke Stack says that while he agrees there are controversial elements of the design, changing the property's zoning to "tourist-commercial" has been forecasted for years.
"There's a lot of details yet to be worked out, but by and large I just agree that this is the right way to go. And so I'll be supporting it," he said.
"And I don't really have any hesitation around supporting it as Tourist-Commercial (zoning), because it's what we've always anticipated for this area."
The 350 units will be mostly made up of condos, which will go with a few ground-level townhomes.
With the new zoning approved, council will wait on the submission of a development application, to debate the details of the project.
