A reckless driver caused a lot of chaos on Monday morning in and around Kelowna.
RCMP first received a call shortly before 6:30 AM, describing a driver in a Ford F-150 pickup truck fleeing the scene of a rollover collision on Highway 97 just outside Lake Country.
From there, the driver headed into Kelowna, and was spotted numerous times in the Rutland area driving recklessly, prompting many more calls to the RCMP.
An off duty officer witnessed the driver commit an offense before fleeing his vehicle on Gerstmar Road. The officer then caught up to him, and after a struggle between the two, in which the officer was reportedly assaulted, the suspect was taken into police custody.
RCMP later confirmed that the truck used by the suspect had been previously stolen in Armstrong, B.C.
The suspect, a young male, remains in custody, and has yet to be indentified. He faces numerous potential charges, which could include reckless driving, fleeing the scene of an accident, and assaulting a police officer.
Over a dozen witnesses are currently being interviewed, and anyone who witnessed the rollover collision, the dangerous driving in Rutland, or the suspect's struggle with the police officer, are asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
