RCMP investigators are probing a daytime shooting south of Peachland.
Late Sunday afternoon, police received word of a shooting in the 7200-block of Highway 97 South. Emergency personnel rushed to the scene, where they located a man with an apparent gunshot wound to his lower body.
The West Kelowna RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) has assumed conduct of the ongoing police investigation, which is still in its early stages.
The victim was transported to hospital for medical treatment.
“Although the man’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening in nature, there could have been a very different outcome,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the Kelowna Regional RCMP Detachment.
“Early indicators suggest that the incident was isolated in nature, and police do not believe that the general public is at further risk”
The suspect has been described to police as wearing a black t-shirt. He reportedly had his face covered.
