Animal Control Officers with the Central Okanagan Regional District are investigating a deadly dog attack on the Mission Greenway on Sunday.
RDCO spokesperson Bruce Smith says a family with a small dog was walking by two Mastiff-Presa Canarios at around 1:45 pm when the larger dogs mauled the smaller animal.
"The two dogs attacked the small dog severely injuring it. The RCMP were called and the owner took the small dog to the vet where it was euthanized because of the injuries it sustained," he says.
Smith says the two larger dogs had no identification and have been impounded, and the owner has 72 hours to collect them - if unclaimed, the dogs will be humanely euthanized.
He says when Animal Control officers arrived the dogs were tied and unattended, but had been loose when they attacked the smaller dog.
According to a GoFundMe page - the family's small dog was a support animal for their 5-year-old autistic son.
