Dodge Ball in our school gyms is nothing more than sanctioned bullying.
That's the opinion of UBC Professor Dr. Joy Butler.
"It's the only game that uses the human body as the target. it doesn't matter how tough you are, I think being pelted with a ball making its mark on your head, your face, on your chest and so on, doesn't feel great. I've played it. I am competitive but still, it didn't feel comfortable to me."
Her stance is controversial. Student athletes enjoy the game and the challenge. Those who aren't athletically inclined don't.
Butler believes it time for teachers to re-examine what's important in PE classes.
Dodge Ball she says is no longer appropriate.
