Planned Ignitions over the past few days have helped bring the Eagle Bluff wildfire out of steep canyon cliffs into more operable terrain. As a result, the fire has moved away from communities. The fire is no longer of immediate threat to any structures, and the Evacuation Alert issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen and the Osoyoos Indian Band has been rescinded. Structural Protection Units and fire department resources will be demobilizing from the fire due to decreased risk in the area.
While the fire received some precipitation over the weekend, the fire remains classified as Out of Control. Cooler temperatures have helped reduce fire behaviour, and not much growth is expected due to similar weather conditions in the forecast. While cooler conditions have decreased the amount of visible smoke, please be advised that this is still an active wildfire, and smoke may become visible again due to a Planned Ignition or a change in weather.
Today, crews will continue to construct guards in operable areas, establish hoselay, and secure line from the Planned Ignition that occurred at McKinney Road. Preparation continues for a Planned Ignition on the northern flank in the coming days.
