Unfavorable conditions caused BC Wildfire Service crews to postpone the planned ignition that was set to begin this afternoon on the Eagle Bluff wildfire. Due to the rain received yesterday, fuels were too wet to conduct a successful burn. Conditions will be evaluated in the morning, and weather permitting an ignition may begin again tomorrow to help contain the fire perimeter. This ignition would allow crews to meet suppression objectives while also replicating a natural fire disturbance that is beneficial for the landscape. Today, crews continued to successfully build guard and mop up and patrol other areas of the fire. Heavy equipment has been working 24 hours a day to construct guard surrounding the perimeter of the fire and are expected to complete this in the early hours of Thursday morning. 149 firefighters worked on the fire today and another 47 will be working overnight. The fire has experienced no significant growth and remains at 2,632 hectares in size.
An area restriction order for Crown land in the vicinity of the Eagle Bluff wildfire was implemented August 13, 2019 for the purpose of public safety and to ensure the safety of firefighting personnel. This order will remain in place until noon on August 30, 2019 or until it is rescinded. Please note, that this does not include Osoyoos I.R. No. 1 as it is not Crown land.
